This is the "plug" my gun dealer removed from my new Mossberg 500. It would only hold 3 shells until this plug was removed. Now it holds the 5 + 1 = 6 shells it is advertised to hold. The plug consisted of a "chop-stick" thin wooden stick with 2 "O" rings on it. It is almost 4 shells long (2-3/4" shells).
