Shotguns--All
Description: (Old scanned image) I believe in the home defense shotgun, although I do not think the 12g. is the first choice of firearm due to over-penetration. I also am a believer in keep-it-simple. Although every manner of tactical gun exists, this is my approach. The ubiquitous Mossberg 500 pump, in the handiest version, which is the 18.5" rather than 20" barrel. Plain hardwood stock (they all seem to be synthetic today), blued steel, and with a brass bead up front. No ghost ring sights, no optics, no bayonet, no grenade launcher. I do have an elastic butt cuff for extra ammo on the buttstock, and yes, I can use it with my left hand (offhand). I reach under the butt and load from below, and I can load directly into the chamber with my offhand and never drop a round because of technique. A Sidesaddle could be better, but what really counts is equipment that works and a shooter that knows how to use it. Note the ammo in the butt cuff is base down for my specific way of reloading. Is this the hot ticket in tactical shotguns? Oh surely it's not. Will this protect me and mine inside my home if that is ever necessary? It surely will.
