Description: The final movement of the lever tips the barrel up so that the user can grab the cartrige with the fingers and hopefully pull it out of the chamber. There is no extractor, the cartrige is normally half in the chamber and half in a recess in the breech. Original cartriges were made from thin copper at first and later from paper- neither of which worked reliably. Nothing wrong with the basic design of the gun, it suffered from very poorly designed ammunition. Pictured with the gun is two lathe-turned cartriges, one holds about 55 grains of powder, the other which is marked by a ring turned in the base, is for target work and only holds a bit under 40 grains
