Rifles--Modern Sporting
Description: My new Marlin 1895 chambered in the formidable 45-70 Gov't cartridge. Fit and finish of this "Remlin" (as they are known since Remington assumed the manufacture of Marlin rifles) is quite good in my opinion, despite earlier reports of shabby QA from the Remington factory. Remington does seem to have corrected the earlier shortcomings and now make a Marlin product worthy of their reputation. I have always wantd a rifle chambered in 45-70, and this certainly has scratched that itch! I love the laminate stock and the smoothness of the action, which can only improve with use.
Due to ever-worsening eyesight, I've installed a Leupold FXII 2.5x20 Ultralight scope, which doesn't detract from the looks of this rifle at all, and certainly makes it more enjoyable to shoot.
