Description: This is the hinged trigger of S&W's MP9 pistol. When you press the trigger normally, the bottom half rotates back before anything else happens. This rotation pivots the projection at the top rear into the body of the trigger; then the trigger is free to be pulled back farther. If something were to snag the trigger without pivoting that bottom half, the projection at the top rear would hit the gun's frame and block the trigger from traveling back.
I'm unaware of any other function for this hinged portion of the trigger but I haven't been inside the frame yet to see if there is one.
