Description: This is the semi-auto 9mm M-40 Light Rifle that S&W developed for the British in 1940 when they desperately needed firearms for their military. It proved to be a failure, and S&W made good on the contract by providing the Brits with a large quantity of .38S&W revolvers instead of the rifles.
