Eric:
I'm the receiver of several WWII bring backs from relatives, and my cousin had several as well. There were many trophies brought back by GIs, and I am pretty sure that is how yours found its way to the States. You have a really nice example, one I would have loved to have had when I was collecting Nazi hand guns years ago. There were so many different pistols used by the Nazis that it's a wonder how they managed to keep track of them, much less maintain them. Yours is a winner, and It was great seeing the photo. Thanks! Harvey |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: No, there were no import marks, so I was assuming the same. I've read a number of stories of people's grandfather/great granfather's having brought these back from Germany after WWII. It seems they were still not an uncommon thing to find in the hands of officers or secondary troops at that time, so a fair number made it back with GI's as war trophies. Still, as you said, they were never actually sold in the US. I have seen only a few at OGCA shows in the last few years that I have been looking, and none in this good of shape, so I am pretty happy. The added bit of history with the police markings made it that much more interesting. |
