For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: There are a number of aspects about 1911s that the mass of users, gunsmiths, and builders generally ignore, or assume someone else is worrying about. If you want some insight into this told in an entertaining fashion, I strongly recommend reading The M1911 Complete Assembly Guide Vol 2 by Walt Kuleck with Drake Oldham. Not to be confused with Kuleck's The M1911 Complete Owner's Guide, which is a pretty complete book for the end user, the "Assembly Guide" will take one from selecting parts and building a 1911 from start to finish. When I say "entertaining," however, I mean it. It is not in any way a boring tome, but is fascinating for anyone with more than a passing interest in the 1911. You will read things that are NEVER mention by gun writers, even if the purport to be discussing complete 1911 builds. An example: the cut on the vertical impact surface of the frame where the rear of the lower barrel lugs impact, why it should look like a bow tie when it's done right, and of course why the entire job is an important aspect of barrel fitting. Put it on your Christmas list for Hanukkah.
