When I was awarded my first badge, circa 1956, the crossed rifles were Springfield '03s. In 1958, during my next to last year of active service, they changed to the Garands, which were far more representative for me, so I traded the old one for the "new, improved" model with the Garands. Kinda wish I had kept the old one, as it's probably a collector item now.
