Massad Ayoob convinced me years ago that carrying extensively modified guns was a bad idea. That is in fact why I am against the carrying of the typically excessively light triggers of today's factory 1911s--adding a pound or two is useful unless one is extremely well-trained in handling the 1911 not only on the range but in emergency management. I've said it before but I don't mind saying that if you cannot safely hold ANY handgun on a bad guy while you wait for the police you shouldn't have that gun. That means a combination of trigger weight, safety, and personal control.
But this topic is really beyond those basics. This topic is for the knuckleheads who still have not grown up and are still living with a high school mentality, catered to by decades of action movies proclaiming the coolness of firearms in the wrong way. The way where the hero takes the law into his own hands and metes out death in an overdoes fashion with no restraint whatsoever--morally, legally, or physically. This appeals to the type who wears t-shirts that read "Kill 'em all, let God sort 'em out," or "Don't run, you'll just die tired." Or post signs that show the barrel of a gun and read "We don't call 911," or "Those found here at night will be found here in the morning." Putting any sentiment in this vein on one's firearm has got to be even worse in my thinking. What people don't realize is that what makes their buddies chuckle with amusement will not have the same affect on a prosecutor nor on a jury of twelve, eh? That's the biggest thing--the world at large does not share any appreciate for the "humor" in the attitudes shown in those sayings. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Nope, nope and triple nope. My brief search found no cases in which this was an issue, but this website makes a pretty strong argument for "Don't". It could be viewed as intent for malfeasance if I read that correctly, and something you'll have to hire an expert to disprove. |
