Section 8: Handguns Subject: Desert Eagle in 44 Magnum Msg# 1059963

I had a similar itch for many years and never scratched it. I'm sorry yours was unreliable as that is the bugaboo of any handgun for me.
I have never fired the .44 Magnum (though I have fired the .50AE twice--I rented one at a range once and and so got a good chance to go through a bit of ammo--not bad. I was a bit younger.) I fired the .357 version when very young and it was indeed a pussycat. But at that point one is forced to query himself as to why he needs such a large heavy gun to shoot the .357 Magnum. If I were desperate to have a .357 Magnum autoloader--and as you know I was for many years, I'd want a Coonan. Much less of a handful than the Desert Eagle. There's another itch that never got scratched. More's the pity, I suppose. So many guns, such short lifetimes we live.... |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: When it worked, yes it was fun to shoot. Problem was, I couldn't get through a magazine without some kind of failure. What I learned is that the gun had to be kept squeaky clean in order for it to function. I replaced the recoil spring, and 2 magazines... none of it really fixed the problem. I would love to try one in .357 Magnum. I imagine it'd be soft. I even had a holster made for it... Image below from TJ Parmele - Image Title: Desert Eagle Holster |
