Did you catch Stu's reply?  I think he's correct about the change to round butt only.

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: My only guess is simplicity and cost savings.  There are plenty of grips available that give you the square-butt shape and feel even on a round-butt revolver - and were even when they made both butt styles.  The round-butt frame is adaptable to many in-between handle shapes as well. That's my only and best guess. Stu
