The 3956 has a compact aluminum frame and blue slide--is the frame blue as well? That would match the old numbering scheme if I'm interpolating it correctly.
Although God knows S&W occasionally strayed off the path only because it was nigh on impossible to make every oddball thing they made and truly describe it within a four number system. (This is why, in my opinion, Ruger has forever simply given the consumer a simple-ish model name but kept a long model number for internal use--that's the only way to truly track all those variants of one basic model.) |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: From what I've read, there were only about 150 of these made.IIRC, this had an aluminum Compact frame and a blue steel slide. Harvey |
