Yep.  At one point I took a flight with my tackle box and fishing rods as carry-on.  They did ask to look in the box and saw my Rapala filleting knife in it.  No problem, they just asked that I don't open the box while airborne.  Things were much looser - and saner - back in the day... Stu

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: At one time pre 9/11 you could board with a long gun in a soft case and the pilots would keep it in the cockpit with them, hand it back to you when you got off.
