The action on this '03 and most others I've seen was slick and easy to work quickly. I kept the gun for as long as I could see well enough to shoot aperture sights.
Your mention of a guy shooting at a running deer reminded me that Lyman's trademark/logo on these sights used to be a Lyman "peep" sight leading a running deer. Here is a closer look at the sight in the picture you linked to: Camera/Image Info Camera Make - NIKON CORPORATION Camera Model - NIKON D200 F-Stop - F/32 Shutter Speed - 1/3 sec Focal Length - 120 mm ISO-100 |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I can remember back in the mid-late 60's about half of the guys in camp had sporterized '03's and the other half had Remington 760's. The '03's were mostly carried by guys who fought in WW II and were trained using the '03. I remember one guy who enlisted in 1937 when he was only 15 and right before he got out Pearl Harbor happened, he was kept in until late '45 and fought in all the battles in the South Pacific. I watched him crank out 4 rounds at a running deer about 75 yards away as fast as any pump ever made, sounded like a semi auto and you could cover the "group" with your hand.
