Yes, the world of revolvers is not immune from some minor and some major problems (like a bullet stuck in the bore--though that will ruin anyone's day, revolver OR pistol shooter). | ||||||

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Another is a bullet moving forward in the case under the recoil of another round being fired and blocking movement as the bullet is blocked by the squared outer edge of the barrel where it's screwed into the frame. That's a bit of a perfect storm but not unheard of. I've seen it. During Ayoob's LFI-1 course, a young lady stepped up to the range with a then-new ultralight S&W snubby. After the first few shots it locked up tight as a drum because the recoil bumped the bullets forward in the unfired chambers. That was recognized as a common problem with the ultralights then and specific ammo was recommended to counter it - well-cannelured and crimped jacketed bullets as I recall. (She then went to her car, returned with a 6" 686 and proceeded to smoke the course on our qualification test, leaving Bob Rowe in second place and me in third! ) Not common with factory ammo, but I've had a squib fire with a reload that locked up the barrel when the bullet was jammed part-way into the forcing cone. That was a good thing because - had it entered the barrel fully - the next shot would have bulged and possibly blown up the barrel! Stu |
