Occasionally, I run into things and I wonder about them. The Manhurin MR73 I picked up was from a small batch imported that made its way to AIM Surplus. I didn't know anything about them at the time. They looked rough and I THINK mine may have come from North Africa, or Syria about 15 years ago? Anyway, I paid a smidge over $500 for it and I thought I was nuts when it came in. The gun looks rough. It's been refinished at least a couple of times since the manhurin stamp is very hard to read. I thought I made a mistake until I tried the trigger. It has to be the smoothest Double Action trigger I have ever experienced on a revolver. So... in order to test this theory, I picked up a Colt Python tonight. It came in as a police trade from the owner driving to MI to pick up 40 used Remington 870 shotguns. This was apparently an evidence room gun so it's not the prettiest. So, seeing as how I have auction proceeds coming in on Thursday, I put some money down on it and took a couple of pictures. The barrel length concerns me a bit, as does the dip between the barrel rib and the topstrap. However, the price was right at $1400. Again, I wouldn't be doing this except I sold 5 guns in a local auction that netted me back most of what I paid for guns that I didn't want to mess around with. This is what I consider a rare snake gun. One that has been used and shot a bit. Once I pick it up (most likely next week at this point), I think this will be a prime candidate for a re-blue courtesy of either Turnbull or the Colt Custom shop. Or, I might just leave it as is and shoot the thing. My normal "what about NP3 Plus re-finish" musing is simply not an option at this point as the finish is no longer available for custom work. That leaves the good old Royal / Charcoal Blue. Or, if nothing else, I'll wait a year and then sell it for $2k. Anyway, enough blathering. For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I'd love to shoot one of those Manhurins that somebody else paid three grand for... If they live up to their billing, they must be one heck of a revolver! |
