I think the Colt Trooper and a few other models had either vented or solid ribs which joined the barrels and frames as smoothly as they do on the Python. I think it's a Python barrel screwed into a Colt .357 Magnum model frame.

Below is a Colt .357 Magnum model. Note the angled cut at the front of the frame that prevents it from lining up with any raised rib but lines up smoothly with the model's non-ribbed barrel. |
