It was. And I'm a fan of the rifle that particular .257 Roberts was built on, the Remington Model 30. Possibly my favorite bolt action military rifle is the M1917, so it's hard not to like its civilian counterpart.
At the 2019 NRA Meetings there was a collector who had examples on display of every version of the M1917 including versions provided to foreign countries like Honduras, then civilian versions, notably the Remington Model 30 in various versions. This photo doesn't date from that show, but if you are interested in a bunch of photos I took, go to Message Board, advanced options, and put message number 1044664 in the box. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: 257 Roberts, a great old round we don't see anymore, a deer cartridge for the ages! Image below from Mark Freburg - Image Title: Remington M30S Image Info: The classic Remington Model 30S rifle in .257 Roberts. Built on the M1917 military action that Remington supplied in huge quantities to the U.S. military in WWI, this was Remington's first bolt-action sporting rifle, offered prior to the Models 721 and 722. |
