Some of the Troopers had that cut off bevel at the front of the frame but some of the later models did not: they had a solid rib on top rather than a ventilated one and had a Python-shaped frame to prevent that ugly notch. The gun in question could also have a barrel from an earlier model simply called the .357 Magnum as shown below.
