If I wanted one badly enough, there are lots of used ones around. Nearly 130 years of Model 10s alone!
Yep, I've had a bunch of M10s over the years, yet I don't recall ever buying one that was NIB. I came close to "new" more than once, but they all were "pre-owned". OTOH, I did buy an M37 NIB, but that was probably 60 years ago! This is my S&W M-36 Chief's Special in .38 Special. The stocks at the right side are what came with the hand gun when I purchased it, and I replaced them with S&W OEM stocks.  Harvey |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: You're right. And it puts people off when they first see those prices. I like all those revolvers, but I wouldn't even bother shopping around for a new one. If I wanted one badly enough, there are lots of used ones around. Nearly 130 years of Model 10s alone!

My M36 was a fairly recent buy, but it was used.
