You are right, the Hilco products are not cheap! I guess my first post was a little misleading because I talked about the pricey cleaners that are a rip off. The Hilco products are not cheap either, but the wipes are worth the cost IMO. You get 70 big wipes in a tub, and I would use them when cleaning my gun away from my workbench. I typically use a GI gun cleaning "toothbrush" and a Hilco wipe to clean my pistol at work. I am going to start carrying a tub in my big range bag too.

The Hilco wipes are perfect for being out at the range. Like when we go shooting, or especially a shotgunner in the field or at a round of sporting clays. One wipe would be all you need to wipe down the shotgun, and you could even run it down the bore(s). This would be an ideal temporary cleaning treatment until back at the bench for proper cleaning. That way I can wipe down my guns and not feel guilty about cleaning them days later. Guns often sit on my bench for a week or so after shooting them.

A hunter in the field during crummy weather would like the Hilco wipes. One wipe and a pointy insturment will pretty much get the crud out and put lube/preservative where you need it. The Hilco lube is water displacing and a rust preventative, and ideal for such applications.

BTW, the Lubriplate grease is an excellent suggestion, and exactly the sort of thing I am talking about! It is better than the majority of the gun grease products out there. The fact it costs less by volume is an even better reason to use it.
