I remember being offered the chance to switch from the USAF to the Army to become a warrant officer helicopter pilot. My recollection at the time was that we'd go straight into rotary wing flight school. I think it was while I was still in tech school in '64. Current scuttlebutt said helicopter pilots in Vietnam had an average life expectancy of about 3 days and nobody in my flight elected to transfer. I've sometimes wished that I had given it a bit more serious thought. | ||||||
