You're welcome. The SEALs did use the M39 and M59 pistols as Hush Puppies, but they also used the .45acp P9S.
The G3s had heavy recoil and were known to tear up cartridge cases on extraction/ejection. The buffer in the P9S evidently worked pretty well as the pistol is soft shooting. Can you imagine what the price of ther P9S would be today, based on the required machining and fitting of parts in that roller block action and the cocker/decocker? German engineering is never inexpensive, eh? Harvey |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Thanks for all that info--I've filled up a couple mental cabinets upstairs that were just gathering dust. The use as a Hush Puppy was completely new to me--never heard it before! Always thought those were M39s or M59s. Very interesting indeed. The downsized roller-block action is also interesting, very unique, and something of an engineering marvel given the size of the pistol compared the size of a G3's action. I guess the buffer really worked, as the roller-blocked, recoil-operated HK G3 (or, in my experience, HK91), is one of the harder recoiling rifles out there. Neat stuff! Love learning new stuff! |
