Except for my wife, I know very few people in Texas my age or younger who don't have a TX CHL.
Could you say that if you lived in Austin? Texas has about 585,000 concealed handgun licensees these days (data from 2013). Your over-18* population is around 19.4 million (2013 estimate). That would give a percentage of adult license-holders as around 3%, which seems very typical for a shall-issue state. So I'll give Texas points for being one of the earlier states to pass shall-issue, but your percentages aren't anything special - despite you're being Texans! * That's how the census breaks it down - I'm ignoring the older age requirement (if any) for license eligibility there. For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Except for my wife, I know very few people in Texas my age or younger who don't have a TX CHL. As I said in a post several months ago, the TX CHL has become the voter ID of choice for conservative voters in Texas. In my case, it has my name exactly as it is shown on my voter registration card and my driver's license does not, so I have to use my CHL when voting till my driver's license is renewed in 2015. |
