The quick answer is that the rules of the scenario called for shooting while lying down.
The idea was that I was awakened to see those bad guys almost upon me and had to shoot immediately. Otherwise I would have not only sat up but jumped to cover and only then unleashed the power of my mighty swift sword. The particular posture was up to me as I recall and that was the best-supported position I could manage within the parameters. Stu |
