By the way, I found an engraver who does the sort of style I really like best, what I think of as true banknote. His name is Wayne D'Angelo, and he used to head up S&W's engraving, among other things. It is the dark background behind the floral that seems to make the banknote style:

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I like that style as well, although maybe it's a bit overdone on that particular revolver. The Italian style I was talking about is "bulino", a pictorial style made by many tiny punched dots as in this example.
Although this is a very pretty example of it, the style in general just doesn't turn me on! Stu |
