I think it was the Museum of Science and Industry, but Field Museum sounds familiar and may have been another name for it. I remember there being a museum, a planetarium and an aquarium side by side on a spit of land sticking out into lake Michigan.
I started first grade at the Eugene Field School in Rogers Park. He must have been a Chicago politician... I visited the aircraft carrier Lexington that is on display in Corpus Christi but I never made it to the battleship Texas while we lived there. I did stop and tour the battleship Alabama on a dive trip from Texas to Florida. Both the carrier and battleship were like small floating cities and while they were spartan they were no where near as cramped as the submarine. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Cool. There is still a German sub (same one?) at the one of the Chicago museums --the Field Museum? I want to visit sometime. I think I enjoyed going on that American sub more as a full grown adult than I might have as a kid, even. I know I embarrassed my late-teenage son, sitting there making up a scene from countless WWII sub movies and talking it out loud...no other people around but us, but still, teenagers, they embarrass easily. |
