I'm not that knowledgeable either, but the unbuttered toast analogy fits your comment--they are all over TV.  Why get what every other kid on the block all ready has?

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: MP5 is so visible on TV I can't help wanting one. In the world of subguns I am very uneducated.
