Ever contemplate why S&W, king of the metal DA/DAO, can jump right in and make successful 1911s, but Colt, original home of the 1911, cannot help but step on its feet every time it tries to make a DA or DAO pistol?
I've often wondered as well. Single action mindset? NIH? (That's unlikely, as they went outside for the designs of the AA2000 and Z40.) 'Tis a mystery. They wanted to be the first successful producer of the smart pistol, which is why they had CZ develop (at their own cost) the Z40. Bad idea! When the word got out to the public, the negative outcry killed the project. Oh well, give them props for trying something different, but as usual, their market research was lacking IMO. Harvey |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Ever contemplate why S&W, king of the metal DA/DAO, can jump right in and make successful 1911s, but Colt, original home of the 1911, cannot help but step on its feet every time it tries to make a DA or DAO pistol? It seems it's three strikes they're out for Colt on this sort of design. I don't know why.... |
