I think, based on decades of reading, that a general officer of the early 20th Century could have something like that cut-down revolver, be it a cut-down Army Special OR a Colt Commando, for the asking. Who was going to turn him down?
Because--and here is where I invite you and other seasoned military readers to correct me if I'm way off--the lines of accountability were simply not what they are today, or were even in the latter half of the 20th Century. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: You're welcome.I just thought it would make for a discussion after I saw the photo posted on the Home Page. A General Officer back in the day would be issued both a 1911/1911A1 and a Model M, be it .32 or .380. The revolver is a bit unusual to me, unless this General was in a billet that required one (i.e.CID or OSS)) Thanks for your points on the Colt Official Police. Harvey |
