Absolutely. My guess would be that the General Officer who owned those 3 guns would have been from the WWII era, and following that war, he retired and brought home his personal hand guns. You're right, who was going to question a General? Plus, he evidently went through the legal process and filled out the necessary paperwork. I suspect that General Officers today still have perks/exceptions that grunts lack with issued guns. Harvey |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I think, based on decades of reading, that a general officer of the early 20th Century could have something like that cut-down revolver, be it a cut-down Army Special OR a Colt Commando, for the asking. Who was going to turn him down? Because--and here is where I invite you and other seasoned military readers to correct me if I'm way off--the lines of accountability were simply not what they are today, or were even in the latter half of the 20th Century. |
