My attachment to that series of Detective Specials began with a plastic one I got as a kid. I love the way they look but I really don't care for the look of the later ones with barrel lugs. Unfortunately, I ended up not as fond of the way it shot as the way it looked. The grip was uncomfortable so I ordered a Tyler T-Grip for it and while it helped, it still wasn't natural or even comfortable. I could have slapped a set of Hogue or other rubber finger-slotted grips on it and made it more shootable but that would have destroyed my attraction to the gun. So, I ended up trading the gun off. I often wish I'd kept it, put it in a frame and hung it on my wall... But that would have been stupid for a list of reasons.
I had a three-inch Python for a while. I couldn't shoot it as accurately as my six-inch Python (duh) and it was really designed and intended for carry and, me being a 1911 guy, that was never going to happen. A shooting buddy who was deeply into revolvers harassed me until I finally sold it to him. He treated me kind of like I treated you over the Hi-Power... The Python feels completely different and much better to me than the DS did. I think the epitome of .38 Special carry revolvers for me would be a Colt Diamondback. One of those with a three-inch barrel (I don't recall ever seeing one) would be just right if I could buy one without refinancing my homestead... While I'm wishing, let's put a hard chrome finish on it accented by beautiful wooden grip panels and make it a barbecue gun! |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I have a similar one, made in 1968. It has replaced my sold Smith M37 as my desk gun.
