I have long meant to try 5744 but haven't.  Mike Venturino says it is the only smokeless he uses for these kinds of cartridges.  I should get some.  That would be about right for my Sharps.  I assume you are using a cast bullet?

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I load 26 grs of 5744 under a 395 gr bullet. I use this in all 45 70 including the revolvers. it goes through the crony at about 1300 fps
