For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I don't know if it was true or myth, but supposedly the BDM was developed for an FBI pistol trial. Seeing as how the FBI had been using both revolvers and pistols as issue firearms, the thought was the mode selection of "P" (pistol) or DA/SA, and "R" (revolver) or DAO, would make transition for all FBI users easier. It was a thought, anyhow. But the FBI didn't select the BDM, so Browning simply offered it to the commercial world. Making it lever-actuated or something may have had some merit, eh? Yep, that would have made it more convenient to change modes. But I just don't think the overall concept made much sense for the commercial market.Browning later offered the pistol as a DA/SA only version, and a DAO version only. Harvey |
