Very impressive, back in the late 50's and early / mid 60's God himself couldn't make staff on his first enlistment, in fact making E-4 on a first enlistment was unusual for anybody other than electronic techs because industry offered them crazy money to come to work when they were discharged. | ||||||

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Yes, I made E-5 Staff Sergeant, which I made after the first time I tested and was able to get a high line number. I sewed on with a month or two short of three years on the job during my first enlistment. And yes that is a SAC badge, and next to it a TAC badge, above them the NORAD badge and the Space Command badge (which had just been formed in the early 80s when I got out). SAC and TAC both there because I was assigned to NORAD 1010th Special Security Squadron (like SAC's Elite Guard). NORAD, at Cheyenne Mountain, Colorado, was of course the early warning command for all of North America and alerted SAC and TAC as necessary when possible threats appeared. I was not assigned to a SAC until specifically however. |
