That happens more often than you might think. It happened to me once. Many years ago, I was alternately shooting a 9mm and .40 and not paying enough attention. I loaded 9mm in my 40 mag and when I shot the first one I knew something was wrong. I could feel the bullet bounce down the barrel. The brass was bulged but not split, no damage was done. Stuff happens. I learned to be more careful. | ||||||

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I know of a guy that at an IDPA match, shot 15 rd of 9mm from his G22 (40 S&W), cycling each round manually. He initially thought that he had poorly made hand loads. Which by itself, would have made me stop after one or two at the most! But he kept on going. All rounds went off and impacted the intended targets. While collecting his brass, it was discovered what was really happening. Goes to show that you can never be too careful...
