Wilson now offers drop-in grip safeties for 1911s including two for a Commander.
I found this set of white dot sights at Brownells and a review said they fit a Colt series 70 lightweight Commander with no modification. I was very careful with the BHP to make sure only competent people worked on it and everything could be changed back to where Harvey had it because that was the configuration that attracted me to the gun to begin with. And, I always keep the original parts when I change anything in cases where the original parts could be reinstalled. If I wanted to have the slide reworked for Novaks then I would throw away the crappy original sights, but I don't want to do that. After all, I don't know what other firearm treasures he has hidden in his secret sock drawer and I may need to trade the Commander back to him someday... |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Well, neat! Couple things I think you'll find re: parts. I think there is a reasonable chance you'll find some drop-in sights to fit the original Colt slide. They might not be your dream sights but they'll be taller and high visibility and yet will fit the rear dovetail and front tenon. Brownell's carries these and I've seen them, though not looked recently. On the other hand, a drop-in grip safety for a Colt might be more difficult. I'm not aware of anyone making one anymore, but finger's crossed. In the meantime, it sounds like Harvey's Hi-Power didn't get messed up too badly. |
