| My cousin was a D.I., told me if I enlisted he would take good care of me. I knew Albert was "throwed off" and joining the Marines would have been a BIG mistake so I opted for clean sheets and overall good food not to mention sleeping in a warm, dry bed, not in a swamp with a rock for a pillow! | ||||||

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: A plane load of Marines on a cross country flight stopped at our base for the night, it was a steak night and that plus the fact they were sleeping in real beds in an air conditioned barracks had them asking if they could desert the Corps and join up with us! Rather than get into a bit of inter-service comparisons on food, I think I knew what was in store (regarding food) when I raised my right hand because a friend and a cousin had already enlisted in USMC and they told me of their experiences. Always high on their list was SOS, and breakfast in bed on weekends. Well, one out of 2 ain't bad! Harvey |
