Could you have it rechambered to 308 without destroying it's value? | ||||||

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Thanks Robert, I’ve actually seen several nice 99s on GB sell in the $750-$850 range, in real good (looking?) condition. The much desired EG model starts around $850 to over $1k, from what I’ve seen. I originally wanted one in 308, but in reality, 300 Savage is so close, the differences for my purposes, would be almost immeasurable. The problem it turned out was, finding ammo, or even brass! All online suppliers were out of brass. I did “luck out” a bit and found Remington Cor-Lokt ammo for $44/20 rd. I bought 6 boxes just to have something to eventually reload. The price has since risen to over $80/box, from that same supplier! Then, some shooting buddies came up with a few dozen “found” cases they had shelved years ago. I have had good luck with reduced and or lead bullet loads for several rifles that I load for. But not too much luck so far for the 300. I do have a very fine and accurate full power load developed right now. But the search is still on for a light plinking load. I have since added a Marbles tang sight, greatly increasing the sight radius… |
