For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I don't have data in front of me, so we aren't really having an intelligent discussion here----but I'm just thinking that given the not insignificant number of handgun hunters, and archers as well as you point out, it is not an insurmountable task to kill a deer with less than the oft-accepted 1000ft/lbs of energy. I think we both know energy figures are not the be-all and end-all when it comes to killing power. I happen to have a friend who has, for reasons we don't need to discuss, killed several deer with a .22 rifle, one shot and dead. Is a .22LR a good deer cartridge? No, and I don't think we would choose it, but the fact remains that skill and circumstance outweighs anyone's "energy figures." |
