I think it might simply be the flatness you mention. I don't know if I ever tried to carry a G22 never had a G17, but same-same size-wise. On the other hand I did carry a G23 for several years.

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I find a G17 and a 1911 to be very close when it comes to conceal-ability. But the 1911 is flatter. |
I just remembered, I did carry my G35 on occasion--that had to be every bit as large or larger than the G17/22? I guess a good holster and the right cover garment is everything.
