I agree on that. I generally avoid cheap looking repo materials, but when the original material is outrageously expensive, I will try to find something that is cheaper but looks the part. There is a synthetic ivory out now that has striations and even looks faded. I have a pair for 1911s.
I did once buy some cheap plastic, flat-out FAKE Ivory stocks, for my Ruger Mk.II. Only plastic stocks I've ever purchased. But I like them and they are still on the pistol. They do have a tiny amount of "yellowing," so they aren't hideous. Image below from Mark Freburg - Image Title: Ruger Mk.II |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I've kept the stocks as they came with the pistol. I've thought about replacing them with some mastodon ivory or something like that, but the grips are more expensive than the gun! |
