modified M-14's set up with a high power scope
Probably using the Marine M39 Enhanced Marksman Rifle, a modified M14, with a 3-12X scope. Hitting at 1,000 yards is very possible, but the rifle is rated at effective range of about 850 yards. It's similar to the M14 EBR (Enhanced Battle Rifle), used by the Army and Navy Seals. Harvey |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: My grandson was active '16-'20 and I remember him talking about modified M-14's set up with a high power scope, maybe 12-18 power, used by platoons for sniper work out to 1,000 yards? Said they were popular in Afghanistan, the Taliban or whoever would set up far enough from a trail to be out of effective range of the M-4 and proceed to drop mortars on the grunts. The joke was on them when the unit sharpshooter got to work with the M-14, the 168 grain Match King rounds were deadly as attested to by a number of Taliban funerals! |
