Well said, Kim. Hindsight is always 20-20; I would hate to start jailing people based on what they might do in the future. The whole "prior restraint" idea has always given me chills.
That said, if we had some intermediate step, something that would better identify the real future predators without violating their rights, I would love to see it. I know that isn't an original idea; the whole "see something,say something" concept is an attempt to do just that, but it is obviously not that effective. It comes into conflict with our society-wide "live and let live" precept and what I think is a general revulsion against that selfsame prior restraint concept. What's the real answer? Beats me...
