I look at this as the equivalent of buying a good custom handgun, only cheaper.   The pride of carrying a quality knife is a factor, I admit; a solid auto-opener with a strong pivot and excellent steel blade will cost that much.  I never paid more than about thirty bucks for a knife before, if I recall right, and most have been freebies!
