For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Unfortunately, whenever politicians try to downsize agencies, they always cut some positions from the boots on the ground line staff (the ones that do the actual work) and training and equip. Then pat themselves on the back. All they really accomplish is making the job harder for the remaining staff while saving pennies. More than that; it's called the "Fire the Firemen Syndrome" Believe it or not, my kids' Civics class at the hoity-toity liberal high school they attended taught them that. The idea is that, in order to preserve their slush funds, government agencies slash the actual service providers instead of the unnecessary pet programs. Then when things go sour they say "See what happens when you take away our funding?" and get the budgets back again. It's a cynical ploy but it works. Stu |
