Nightstick’s New Barrage USB Tactical Flashlight with Red and Green Floodlight Capability
This review (complete with typos that the editor missed I read an gun magazine article back in the very early 1980s which set me on a lifelong investigation into red and green light as it related to sight and sighting issues. This was because, as I found out, I have (as it turned out, rather minor) red/green color blindness. This was confirmed for me when I enlisted in the USAF and they initially would not light me enter my chosen career field (Security Police) because it required an ability to differentiate colors in order to read alarm systems. As it turned out my color blindness was mild enough that I had my doctor write me a letter stating such, took it back to the induction center, retook the vision test, and passed. Over the years I've made it a point to discuss this with several doctors, and the short answer is that this is far more common than most people realize. The author of this flashlight review tells you that with a red light flashlight you can automatically read maps, and red preserves your night vision. This may be true for most people, but those who know they some level of color blindness, especially red/green, should take these statements of fact with some degree of skepticism. Even with my mild form, I cannot see a red insert in a front sight. I actally saw an article decades ago discussing handgun sight inserts entitled You're Dead With Red. That writer realized the degree with which color blindness affects a spectrum of individuals. I just wanted to put this out there before everyone put out their hard-earned money. |
