The Hilco wipes are fairly damp, but the lube/cleaner stuff on them is light weight - not greasy or thick. I rub the wipe all over and do a field cleaning with it, but then I wipe off any excess with an old t-shirt. At that point it is ideal: it has a coating of the lubricant but it isn't oily. I tried them out of laziness, but actually for the anal type who has an expensive firearm it would be good insurance in the field. Normally I do not like fiddly pop-up tubs, but in this case it just makes things handy when you are not in your shop area. I have also used mine for the occasional "wipe everything down in the gun safe" ritual. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Ooh yes, a few gloves from my bench would be the way to go. KEWL!! BTW, I have to admit I am a bit hesitant on the pop-up wipes in general because I tried the SHEATH wipes that came in individual packets years ago--those were so saturated the gun would be soaking wet with oil after wiping. I also tried some very early pop-up wipes about ten years ago and found them very oily. I will give these a try, however, because after all is said and done you don't recommend junk. |
