Jim, Ok..I'm looking at my "new" blued (Armi San Paulo) '58 Remington, and there's a marking on the frame that is two X's followed by what looks like a 9. So it looks like this: XX9 The "9" appears to be poorly stamped (probably double-stamped) and may not be part of the date code at all. What's your date reference say? Mike |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I have been given a copy of the date codes for Italian reproduction guns, for inclusion in a club newsletter that I produce, as this is public information I thought I would share it with the Forum members. All Italian made reproduction firearms have a date code stamped on them, this includes those made by or imported by Uberti, Pietta, Pedersoli, Colt, FIE, Navy Arms, Hawes, and many others. This system was began in 1954 with a simple Roman numeral X and progresses to XXX in 1974. In 1975 they switched to a letter code which was stamped inside a "box" or border, 1975 is AA, then AB for 1976 and so on. This date code usually apears on revolver frames, and on pistols and rifles the barrel is stamped. If you want to date your '58 Remington or whatever, just ask, I will keep the list handy Jim |
